The Mayor's Office of Public Safety (MOPS) oversees initiatives, programs, grants, and departments focused on the most essential responsibility of any city government: keeping our residents safe. Mayor Garcetti understands that, in the 21st century, meeting that charge extends to a wide range of areas — from improving cybersecurity, securing our ports and airports, and countering violent extremism to reducing gun violence, improving resilience, combating human trafficking, and halting the scourge of domestic violence.
MOPS tackles these areas and more by partnering with local agencies like the LAPD, L.A. Fire Department, and the Emergency Management Department; working with state and federal agencies like California’s Office of Emergency Services and the Federal Bureau of Investigation; leading our Crisis Response Team; and coordinating our Gang Reduction and Youth Development effort — our core gang violence prevention and intervention campaign.
